The Sai Experience

....."My friend was right. He is a pure and holy person, not afflicted with jealousy or hatred of other saints than one’s own Guru. He represents a group that, in its desire to stress metaphysical and ultimate truths is apt to underrate the importance of miracles to those who are just beginning their spiritual life.

So, I felt that the entire defect was that I was producing the separate bricks lent to me by each devotee in the shape of his experience. Hardly any of these devotees had a conception of what the building was into which his brick had to be fitted; i.e. Baba’s real nature. So, I appealed to Sai Baba himself - much as Sri Ramakrishna complained to Kali Mata that she should be represented as a Tamasic deity by a learned pundit.

I felt an inner warning that I should abandon thinking in English and in terms of newspaper articles and that I should try to write out a reliable but orthodox biography of the saint in my own mother-tongue. As I began that task, even in the earliest chapters, Baba’s nature, his powers, their nature, his Guru and what the Guru did for him came up for consideration.

And I discovered passages in what Baba had spoken which with passages from Scripture showed how Baba’s Guru was saturated with Divinity, i.e. was God, and how that Guru God’s self was poured upon Baba resulting in the latter’s merger in the Divine and consequent manifestation of wonderful powers. What Baba was taught and what Baba taught or conveyed by radiation or unseen influence came in to fill up the picture.

For the first time, so far as I knew, a clearly intelligible picture of Baba's nature, powers and course, materialised and was presented by me in the Introduction to Sai Baba. The first edition of that as published in November 1938 and now within 11 months, a third edition is having a rapid circulation.

The statements of Devotee’s experiences have also been published as Part I and Part II in support of much that is contained in the introduction. This introduction has been done into all the Madras vernaculars, Tamil, Malayam, Kanarese and Telugu. The total number of books on Sai Baba published on this side is about 16,000. These facts are clear evidence that Sai Baba has favoured the spread of his Bhakti-especially in this Presidency.

One striking fact supporting the above conclusion is that thousands have become devotees of Sai Baba here within the space of the last 15 months. Over 100 meetings have been held. Aratis of Baba have been conducted and a few words about Baba have been uttered to the audiences: Baba’s support of the movement is further evidenced by the fact that over 30 devotees in this Presidency have had several experiences of their own which they have communicated to me and which are now being published as ‘Madras Devotees’ Experiences.

It is needless for me to quote my own numerous experiences. But I shall single out two of them a very striking character before closing this account, as they reveal the greatest of the blessings Baba has conferred on me. He has granted the prayer of my life for an increased and still increasing measures of self surrender, by promoting in me. Ananya Chinta i.e. intense and all time concentration on himself, based on the realization that he is looking after all that may still remain (after my passing into the Vanaprastha Asram) as my needs and responsibilities, ¬thus assuring deep mental peace.

In November 1937 I was at Tiruvanumalai and was intending to start for Madras, by train. Then a friend, Sri Tulasidats P. Sahani offered to take me to Madras in his car, wherein he pointed out that he, Miss Uma and I could be singing Bhajana songs or Namavalis all along the 140 miles of the journey.

The weather was rainy and I consulted Baba, by prayerfully casting chits before him and picking a chit at random. Baba’s direction was that I should go by train. I went to apologise for my not being of the Bhajan party but was induced to change my mind. I returned to my quarters and pleaded with Baba.

The rule with Baba was and is that once a decision is given, a second consultation on the same matter should not be sought. I however pleaded with Baba that he should permit me to transgress his orders for that once, as the object of the transgression was pious and I prayed that the penalty that was bound to follow a transgression may be lenient for the same reason. Then I started with the two pious friends in Sri Tulsidas’s car.

There was rain off and on all the day and all the way. But we with singing cheered the way and the journey started very pleasantly. After the fifth mile, the car was proceeding slowly; and suddenly the sound of some thing snapping was heard. The owner alighted, examined the car and found that the back axle had broken in two. The journey thus came to an abrupt end.

It was still raining. And at the place where the car stopped, there was no shelter. Help for repairing the car was out of the question. Then for the first time, I revealed to my two companions that I had joined them in their motor trip against the express direction of Sai Baba. I at once submitted myself to Sri Sai Baba, thanked him for the lightness of the penalty and prayed for direction whether I should at that stage try to go by train or by car alone. Baba directed me to "go by car alone".

That was all very good. But where was the car that could take to Madras? Mr. Tulsidas’ s car would take a whole day at least to repair and meanwhile what were we to do in the wet weather on the road? While I was waiting thus for 45 minutes not knowing what was to happen to us, a car from Tiruvannamalai drew up. It was the car of P. Krishnamachari sales man of Volkhart Bros., Madras and he was the only occupant of it.

He enquired about our condition. By his kindness, Miss Uma and myself got into his car, leaving Mr. Tulsidas to attend to his own car. As soon as we got in, Mr. P. Krishnamachari remarked that he was wondering at what happened. That very morning he had written home to Madras that he intended to stay four more days at Tiruvannamalai and that they need not expect him for that period. But at 11 A. M. he suddenly changed his mind and wished to start back to Madras in his car, without any clear reason for such a wish.

He went to Ramana Maharshi at whose Ashram he stayed and asked for leave. The leave was granted at once. And at once he got into his car and was driving towards Madras when he came and saw our plight. He said that his sudden change of mind and the hurry he was in to get back to Madras was puzzling him till he saw our helpless position.

It is because we were in a forlorn condition that God must have sent him so suddenly to our rescue, he said. I at once confirmed his statement and informed him that God Sai had done so. Sai had asked me go to Madras by car alone at 11 AM. He alone could find a car to take us to Madras and he did. He could and did change Mr. P. K’s mind to suit his high and benign purposes.".......

Q & A

What is the role of a Sadguru like Baba in our life?

The Sadguru gives the ability of God realization to the deserving human beings. His first function is to evolve them, stage by stage and give the experience of attaining the state of ‘Paramhamsa’ to the very, very few deserving human beings. Without the grace of a Sadguru it is impossible to achieve this state. One in billions can achieve this ‘Paramhamsa’ or ‘Sadguru’ state. ‘Paramukti’ and ‘turiyavastha’ can be attained with great difficulty.

The Sadguru removes all the impediments in the path of spiritual evolution of any human being who comes in His contact with Him in any way. Sadguru breaks the wrong and illusory concepts (maya) of a devotee collected through a few lives of his existence. All human concepts are relative and illusory in nature.

When ignorance is dispelled by the Guru the disciple’s inner knowledge gets illuminated itself. The true knowledge is veiled by various concepts taught to us from childhood and experience acquired by us. Therefore, it is necessary to shed them before the mind is free to accept new and truthful concepts.

For a man who thinks that he is the most intelligent person, the Sadguru wipes out his ego of intellect till he realises that his intellect was full of follies. The Sadguru works upon the human society intensely in a way so as to ensure that human beings transcend their human limitations and attain a limitless state of God, which is their original state.

……“Baba gave advice to Chandorkar as to how to behave in society. Baba himself behaved excellently in respect of every relation in society. What are the ties of Baba and what were the ties also of Baba in previous janmas, and what would be his ties in future? Baba recognised in his accounts of previous births and of the present one that he had parents, and that he had to help and support his mother or his father, and his brothers and sisters. He recognised that sisters of his former janmas gave him support, and took birth in this janma again to continue the support.

Tatya Patil’s mother, Bayaji Bai, was a sister of his previous birth and by that strong tie she took immense pains to see him fed, especially in his young nomadic days at Shirdi, when he used to wander into the jungles not caring for food. She would run into those jungles and feed him wherever he might be. From the beginning of his life, this sister made it certain that he would have his food and not starve. For such a provision one must be indeed highly grateful, and Baba was grateful.

Baba could never forget even the slightest offices done to him. On one occasion when he climbed up a house and wanted to descend, and a ladder was brought to him, he paid Rs.2/- to the man who brought the ladder, saying that services should not be accepted gratis.

Similarly when a Muslim applicant for dynamite, who had been twice improperly refused licence by the Collector, came to Baba for his intercession, Baba told Chandorkar that he (Chandorkar) must help that applicant with a license for dynamite for deepening his well. Baba said, ‘This time let him present the application to the Collector, and the Collector will grant the license’. Baba added, ‘This man has left a box with us, and it is not proper for us to say ‘no’, when he asks for its return’. Chandorkar explained that statement to mean that applicant had done in a former birth some good service to Baba or to him (Chandorkar) or to both, and out of gratitude; he must be helped on this occasion.

When Baba was so full of gratitude even for such slight services, he would be the last person to forget a lifelong support for feed, etc, such as Bayyaji Bai gave him. He never forgot it. In addition to that, her son Tatya Patil was attending upon him at the mosque and spent his nights for many long years with Baba, serving Baba and sleeping with Baba. Baba, remembering all that, was very affectionate towards Tatya.

Tatya would call Baba 'Mama', that is maternal uncle, and Baba would refer to Tatya as 'Puthna' or nephew. Baba would not get up from his bed till Tatya came up and lifted him and lit up his pipe for him to smoke. He was watching over all devotees no doubt, but especially over Tatya, and he gave him frequent advice based upon his own superior knowledge. When there was the danger of his valuable horse getting damaged by a journey, Baba warned him. Tatya did not mind the warning and went on the journey, and nearly lost his horse.

Similarly on other occasions Baba gave him the use of his Antarjnana or supersensual knowledge. But what people mostly judge by is the extent to which one gives them worldly goods. Baba gave plenty of the world's goods to Tatya. During the last ten years when Baba was getting a Provincial Governor's income, Tatya was daily paid a fixed sum on which income tax was levied. With his funds, Tatya was able to build three storeyed houses for himself and purchase lands also.

He grew rich and respectable, and was looked up to as a person who was the pet of Baba. It is even said that in 1918 when Baba said that Tatya would die, Tatya was saved. Some people believe that Baba gave up his own life in order to save Tatya's life. A dictum in Srimad Bhagavata is

Gururnasasyat svajano na sasyat,
Na mochayet yah samupeta mrityum

This means, ‘If one does not save the life of a person in peril of death, he is unfit to be called a Guru, kinsman, etc'. Baba has said that he would sacrifice his own life for his bhaktas who concentrate their affection on him. This certainly applied to Tatya. Baba's concern for Tatya Patil's family did not stop with mere provision of funds. Unfortunately, amongst the Patils' families, all of whom were devoted to Baba, there were divisions and factions. Baba was watching over them. On one occasion in the Mosque, he suddenly said, “Don't beat, don't beat”.

When G.S. Khaparde's son asked Baba why he said so, Baba explained that in the quarrels between the Patils there was imminent danger of clash, and to prevent it he said, “Don't beat, don't beat”. That is how Baba has been safeguarding and helping Tatya and his people. He helped Tatya (by a chamatkar) in his criminal appeal against the conviction and sentence of Raghu and others. In so many other ways also, Baba has helped Tatya. So it is clear that Baba recognised the bonds of kinship with Tatya as binding on him, and exercised all his powers for his benefit.

He has rendered similar help to a number of others. These ties of kinship are called ‘Rinanubandha’. Baba has stated that Rinanubandha has to be respected. That ‘rina’ may be due to kinship in past births or in the present. Baba stated his kinship to Kondaji, G.S. Khaparde, and others. He recognises Guru bandhutva, that is, being under the same master, as a powerful bond or tie or rina. Once, he said that Dada Kelkar, G.S. Khaparde, Bapu Saheb Jog, H.S. Dixit, Shama and he (Baba) were all under one common Guru in a previous birth, as Guru bandhus, and, therefore, he had brought them together in this life so that they might renew their contact. He helped each of the above in a very remarkable degree, as set out fully in other chapters of this book.

To Upasani also he revealed the fact that the ancestors of Baba and Upasani were for centuries closely connected, and in consequence Baba was under a very heavy obligation to help Upasani, to lever him up, so to speak, Baba said to Balakrishna Sastri (Upasani Baba's brother) 'There was a tree or a log of wood. There were two on it, evidently one at each and, and by pressing oneself down, the other would be levered up'. Baba said, 'One of these went down and the other went up'. Sri Upasani Baba explained this to mean that it was something like see-saw and that Baba had levered up Sri Upasani in this way. That is, by his powers he had raised the spiritual level and the happiness of Upasani Baba vesting him also with considerable psychic power or siddhi.

Baba recognised even playmates and said he found at a particular tomb that a girl who had been a playmate of his was dead and buried in a tomb, and he found her haunting that tomb. So, he went there and remained there a little while, and afterwards took her with him and brought her to a Babul tree (at Shirdi) and kept her there, evidently for further spiritual elevation of her soul.

Baba recognised his rinanubandha even to animals in the present or past. Mrs. G.S. Khaparde was once a cow that gave him plenty of milk, and on account of that rinanubandha, she, after becoming human and the daughter of a gardener, was levered up into a Kshatriya family, a rich Vaisya family, and finally a Brahmin family. In all her janmas she renewed her conatact with Baba and gave him food. Baba in his turn helped her, and in this janma Baba gave her ‘Rama Mantra’. He not only massaged her, but asked her to repeat ‘Rajaram, Rajaram’, as that would ensure her Sadgati. ”……........

Accordong to Shri Sai the entire universe is an organic and integral whole composed of five elements of nature: sky, earth, water, fire and air. The minerals, rocks, vegetation, animal and insect life are forms as they appear to our senses, to which we give different names. But the difference between one form and the other is only a matter of appearance and not reality.

The only reality in the Universe is God, that we call Brahma, that underlies all forms. There is actually no difference between one human being and another, irrespective of caste, class, language, race, colour, religion or nationality. The difference between one form of life and another appear to us due to our ignorance (Agyan), produced by illusion (Maya).

We differentiate between one and the other on the basis of our sense perceptions. But the knowledge derived through our senses cannot be conclusive, because the very instruments that are employed to understand reality cannot be considered adequate. The senses that are themselves subject to adjudication cannot be made to sit in judgement of what the reality is.

The true knowledge is a unity that can only be experienced, and presently there is no language in the world through which it can be expressed. It can only be termed as an experience of supreme consciousness, a pure state of equanimity, bliss and joy.

According to Shri Sai, this knowledge cannot be acquired by any amount of study of sacred texts or chanting of mantras. It can only be experienced through love. The love should be total such that no distinction would remain between the subject and the object (me and you). Shri Sai gained this divine experience through His indomitable, unassailable faith in His Guru and unwavering patience sustained by intense passionate, uncompromising love.

When He fell deeply and passionately in love with His Guru and single-mindedly surrendered Himself at His Guru’s feet, He became completely identical with His Guru. All the uncalled-for doubt and fidgetiveness of His mind disappeared. According to Shri Sai, each glance of the face of His loving and compassionate Guru filled His heart with feeling of pure ecstasy and bliss.

Just as the different rivers overflowing the banks meet the ocean, forgetting their identity as rivers and become the one great ocean itself, so He experienced a total annihilation of His ego identity based on may and acquired an altogether new personality based on universal brotherhood and love for all creatures of the Earth.

He acquired a knowledge wherein all illusions of forms were annihilated and He experienced a state of Divine Unity and Transcendence and felt such a purity in His heart, as if He had bathed and cleaned in the holy Ganges without being touched by its waters.

According to Shrj Sai, only when a devotee kindles in his heart, a flame of simple-hearted pure love and affection for his Guru, can he get His assistance whenever and wherever required. He will always respond to a devotee's call, who has only uncontaminated and pure love for Him. The qualities of simplicity, affection, compassion, kindness, flexibility, affability, generosity, magnanimity, modesty, humility, easily attract His attention.

But the antithetical qualities like rigidity, arrogance, obscurantism, wrath, envy, lust, hatred etc. always repulse Him and as an inner ‘monitor’ and witness seated in their hearts, He has to wait indefinitely before He can make any positive and meaningful changes in their lives. Shri Sai’s advice to Kaka Mahajani’s friend demolish the wall of teli (oil man) meant exactty this.

Shri Sai used to say to His devoiees that sweetness may depart from jaggery, the sea from its waves and the eye from its sparkle, but never will His simple faithful devotees ever be without Him. According to the author of Shri Sai Satcharita, G.R. Dabholkar – “just as the fire is always present in the wood, but lies latent and is kindled by the process of friction, so is also Sai for His devotees.

Once you look to Him with love and affection, He is in your power, all your life when you call Him, neither time nor place can restrain Him; He stands behind you firmly, all the time and forever. Donning any dress that pleases Him, He appears wherever He wishes and wanders anywhere just for the welfare of devotees. Shri Sai is not confined to three and a half cubits of this human frame, He ¬stands pervading this ‘Universe in an unmanifest state and incarnates for the benefit of His devotees’.

Many devotees had often heard Shri Sai say that just as a mother cannot push away her child with a kick, and an ocean cannot send a river back, He cannot repulse His devotees. He is hungering after their love and is absolutely in their power and will forever stand by their side ever ready to answer their call in distress. His devotees are His children and He is their father.

How can He allow any of them to come to any harm? He has to think about them all the time. Just like when children sleep, a mother has to keep awake, so has He to be on guard against any danger or possible trouble to His babies. He is not only present everywhere, in water, on land, but even in a dry twig; among men and in wilderness; in foreign lands and in His own country. He pervades the radiant sky. He is not confined to anyone country.

He has neither shape, nor size, He is always everywhere. Neither is a door required for His entry, nor horses, carriages, aeroplane, or train are needed to carry Him wherever He is required to reach. Whenever His devotees call him fondly, He will instantly appear before them without a moment's delay. He will not speak a word that is untrue. In order to fulfill His pledged word, He will even give up His life.

Shri Sai spent His entire life at Shirdi serving His devotees with a singular spirit of love and sacrifice, submitting Himself as an abject slave of His devotees. He was often heard saying that, He is not even a groin of dust at the holy feet of His devotees. Shri Sai treated all devotees with equal dignity.

People from all walks of life and all sections of society thronged in large numbers to Shirdi. He shared His food on a common plate with a dog and a leper with equanimity. He often said that He is indebted to all those people who came to Him and granted Him an opportunity to love and serve them.

He carries their debt on His shoulders which He has to discharge when He is alive and even when He is no more. As He is recorded to have said: 'Even when I am no more, trust My word as the Truth. My bones, will give you assurance from My grave. Not Me alone but even My tomb will speak to you. He who surrenders to it whole - heartedly, with Him will it sway. Do not worry that I will be lost to you. You will hear My bones speaking to you of matters of your interest. Only remember Me, always with a heart that is trusting. Worship Me selflessly and you will achieve your highest goal’.

This incident happened when I was in Brazil as visiting professor at Fundacao Universidade Federal do Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul. In the year 2002, there was some important function at our home in India and my presence was necessary. The date for the function was informed to me just 4 days in advance.

I went to a travel agent to book my ticket. After much effort she could find multiple airlines to perform the journey via Johannesburg (South Africa). The entire journey consisted of three sectors; Porto Alegre – Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo – Johannesburg and Johannesburg – Mumbai. I was waitlisted at 90 in the Johannesburg – Mumbai sector. Since there appeared no chance, they refused to issue me the ticket from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg.

During those days, all countries had imposed restrictions on transit due to terrorist attack on World Trade Center, New York the previous year, and I did not have a transit visa for South Africa. There was no time to apply for one. I was disheartened but requested the travel agent to keep trying for a possible chance.

That evening I came back home from work, took my bath and stood in front of my Guru Lord Saibaba and narrated the entire tale to Him. Well, I am aware that He knows everything even without our saying a word. I earnestly sought his help. I did not offer Him anything in return for this favor, because Baba doesn’t need anything from us except pure devotion and remembering Him with love.

Next day when I enquired about the status, the travel agent told me that there was no change in the position, so they could not issue the ticket for one international sector (Sao Paulo – Johannesburg) when the other sector (Johannesburg – Mumbai) was not confirmed. My anxiety grew because international long distance travel is a grueling experience and there was no way I could reach home to attend the function.

That day, once again very intensely I prayed to Lord Saibaba and begged him to come running to help me. Only two days were left and my travel was uncertain. My wife and children (were in India already) were also very anxious. I called my brother (his name is Sainath) and asked him to pray to Lord Saibaba. On the penultimate day afternoon, the agent called me and said that my ticket was confirmed; she also wondered how that happened. I know it is our Lord Saibaba’s mercy that worked this wonder.

I quickly went to travel agent’s office and collected my tickets and performed the journey safely and went back to Brazil. Lord Saibaba is God. He loves all his devotees very much, as he promised that He would cross seven seas to help His devotees, He came to my rescue. He indeed crossed many seas, well for Him the entire universe is a small object in his palm.

The important issue to note here is that Saibaba is present everywhere, listens to the prayers of his devotees from anywhere and helps them in time to see that they lead a happy material life. With such miracles He wants us to build faith and move towards most desirable goal: salvation.

In the Darkest of Nights

In the darkest of nights, when fear just holds me tight,
And yesterday has only betrayed, then tomorrow I know will only dread.
I feel so much burden in my heart, and sadness has gripped me tight,
Loneliness is all I have right now...

Then as silence just dawns,
I hear an echo in my heart, Om Sai Ram, Om Sai Ram, Om Sai Ram,
My heart beat by beat, says, everything will be ok, just have faith.

It only You that I look to, oh Sai! whatever I am going through,
Its ok, because I know you are with me all the way through,
Om Sai Ram, you show me the truth.

Suddenly I feel like the dark cloud has moved,
And warm sunshine is sprinkling its rays,
Oh Sai! Just the power of Your name Dissolve sorrows and converts them to smiles.

Life without you, oh Sai, is full of sadness, pain, hate, ego and envy,
But You teach love, hope and strength, oh Sai! With two words Faith and Patience,
Though this heartfelt prayer I say, Free us from these chains that kill us day by day.

Oh Sai, teach me Shraddha, and Saburi,
To meditate on your leela's, to rejoice on your life,
The strength to give seva, to my mata pita, guru,
Oh Sadguru, without you, my life is worth no life at all.

There are so many books written on positivity, that it requires repeating, but the reverse seems to be happening when you see two trends:

1 Suicides and
2. Forcing your will.

This leads to frustration as only His will works and will work. Don’t try to cross that as you will not succeed, and with frustration setting in, suicides sometimes follows.
Let us study the effects of some thoughts.

If you study your anatomy in relation to your thoughts you will learn that fear of the future will generally result in pain of the right leg and fear of the past will result in pain in your left leg. Surprised? Try it. Change your thought patterns and the pain should disappear.

This is the rule of the thumb but you get the general idea. In another example, as you mentally lift weight your lower back will pain. Look at it this way – if you lift some heavy object physically the load will be on your lower back. The equation is clear. Try it sometime and you will surprise yourself. Also these thoughts can change by looking at life positively.

Now if you apply this equation - since negative thoughts have these effects on our body then positive thoughts can eliminate many of these unwanted aches and pains. The problem lies in the fact that most do not want such easy and simple solutions. They are happy when they go to doctors, spend money and so on, popping pills which have their side effects which will require more pills – it is a never ending cycle. Simply by thinking positively, illness will decrease.

But our ‘Doctor’ Shri Sai has advocated a simple remedy – “trust me” he says. “leave it to me and I will do the rest” but this medicine is too strong for some people simply because of doubt – How? They ask.

Simple faith with implicit trust moves mountains, but this requires strong streams of thought of the mind – the negativity has to be removed for the positive effect to take firm hold.

Always remember that there is a time and place for everything and if what you want is not happening, try to figure it out before you try to take your life. In short, ride it out while praying for His help, which will come but at a time of His choosing.

What is required is faith coupled with patience. If we have faith and patience, there will be no suicides. But to have faith with patience requires strong will power to control thoughts or control of mind. Easier said than done I dare say. Skeptics will doubt the miracles performed by His energy in Udi - but then we devotees know about it – Right?

Purpose of Life

A long time ago, there was an Emperor who told his horseman that he could ride on his horse and cover as much area of land as he likes, then the Emperor would give him the area of land he had covered.

Sure enough, the horseman quickly jumped onto his horse and rode as fast as possible to cover as much land area as he could. He kept on riding and riding, whipping the horse to go as fast as possible. When he was hungry or tired, he did not stop because he wanted to cover as much area as possible.

Things came to a point when he had covered a substantial area and he was exhausted and was dying. Then he asked himself, "Why did I push myself so hard to cover so much land area? Now I am dying and I only need a very small area to bury myself."

The above story is similar with the journey of our Life. We push very hard everyday to make more money, to gain power and recognition. We neglect our health and do not spend time with our family. We are unable to appreciate the surrounding beauty and the hobbies we love. One day when we look back, we will realize that we don't really need that much, but then we cannot turn back time for what we have missed.

Life is not about making money, acquiring power or recognition. Life is definitely not about work! Work is only necessary to keep us living so as to enjoy the beauty and pleasures of life. Life is a balance of Work and Play, Family and Personal time. You have to decide how you want to balance your Life. Define your priorities, realize what you are able to compromise but always let some of your decisions be based on your instincts.

Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of Life, the whole aim of human existence. So, take it easy, do what you want to do and appreciate nature. Life is fragile, Life is short. Do not take Life for granted. Live a balanced lifestyle and enjoy Life!

Watch your thoughts ; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

I am a university teacher. I had read an advertisement about 'treating and curing maladies and problems in 24 hrs' and when I went to the so called Sai Bhakta, he charged an initial fee of 500, and then stated he would solve my problems if I paid him Rs. 25,000. I wanted relief from my problems so I paid Rs. 10,000 and requested him to help me. I said once my problems are overcome I shall be in a position to pay the balance. But to date he had not helped me.

It is two years since I paid him. Meanwhile I approached a very simple looking priest in one of the Sai temples and narrated the story. He very gently cautioned me and suggested that I trust in Sai and pray to him and not pay anyone anything for help. I complied. I just started visiting Sai temple whenever I needed help, solace and guidance. I come out of the temple a stronger person with a strengthened resolve to walk on the right path.

I have experienced all possible problems - a forced marriage, an abusive relationship devoid of the shelter expected, exploitation, physical assault, mental torture etc. This is being done to prevent me from walking out - and my children are my strength and weakness - for their sake I am tolerating it all. Court cases, police stations, are places that I have visited and where I have lost trust in the judiciary and police department. Still I help people - even my abusive in-laws and still they exploit me. Sometimes I feel it has to be karmic.

My professional life is satisfactory so far as my work is concerned but the envy and jealousy of colleagues has been instigating them against me and they have been doing everything possible to create impediments in my progress. I work from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. All this has affected my health adversely with diabetes, osteoporosis and initial stages of rheumatism.

But Baba is helping me - giving me strength, increasing my patience and tolerance and restoring my faith.

I thank Shirdi Sai Baba for channelising your communication to me.

Share your feelings about Shirdi Sai in Devotees’ Forum

Jagannathan, USA

It is so nice of you to publish my experience in Heritage of Shirdi Sai magazine, the experience that any habit can be given up by devotion; maybe all smokers after reading the experience, give up this habit to make their lives happy and breathe fresh air and clean up lungs. If one asks who created the universe? God. Who is this God? Is he Allah? Well yes then why claim superority? Did Allah authorise humans to act as killer machines so that after this life, they will be blessed? It is strange logic that innocents all over the world are subjected to this fear of invisible tyranny that is threat by terrorism. People of all religions should read about Shirdi Sai, who spread love and compassion and taught us that all humans, plants, trees, animals are the manifestations of consciousness. Wake up and get sanity to make a world of heaven.

P.K. Das, Ahmedabad
